Our interview with Gillian and Eddie, the manager, was pleasant indeed. Both enthusiastic about their work gave forth an aura of happiness and contentment. Great people to work with! Eddie took me on a tour of the complex. The first thing I noticed was the attention given to detail. The place is immaculate with everything in the right place (functional) and in good taste. None of those useless pieces that collect only dust and end up at jumble sales. The different suites were a delight. No two are the same. Each has their own meticulous individual decoration with all the comforts you can think of. One even has its own sauna. Most of them overlook the lagoon and those that don’t, overlook the prestigious gardens. A delight indeed! Accommodation is offered in the Manor or the Courtyard adjacent. Two sparkling pools surrounded by deckchairs and sun beds looked very relaxing indeed. On the whole a truly magnificent place. And I should know: I’ve been around!

On driving home Janette and I were in one accord that the first impression formed was one of feeling welcomed and at ease – just like home.
I wonder how many of us have any idea as to where the St James is situated. I think the majority of us usually rush past on into Knysna. It’s situated within a short distance from the town of Knysna on the lagoon side of the road at The Point. St James is probably out of the reach of the majority of us locals: financially that is, but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a visit now and then. After all it’s a place for us to be proud of. It’s a great reflection of our hospitality and a second home for many overseas tourists. Well done Gillian, Eddie and the staff of St James.
