The Callies under-12 team will fly Nelson Mandela Bay’s flag when they compete in the Tekkie Town u-12 National Youth day tournament in George this weekend.
The club has been invited by hosts George United to participate in the tournament from Friday to Sunday. The teams to play the Callies side are still to be announced.
The recently assembled Callies side will be the first team from Pefa to go on tour in a number of years and the whole team and management are keen to enjoy the experience.
"The whole initiative started with a dream and after approaching the club committee and Pefa board it then appeared to gain momentum,” team manager Anthony Emmett said.
The team is made up of under-13 players, who are eligible to compete at under-12 level, and talented under-11 players.
The team have had minimal time to prepare for the tournament, with the weather hampering their progress, but it should not deter a young team from achieving positive results, Emmet said.
"The aim and philosophy is to make a difference in these boys’ lives, whether it be on the field or even if they leave the tour learning something more valuable.”
The team have been fortunate to gain sponsorship from SJM Flex SA, OK Foods in Linton Grange and OK Grocer in Algoa Park, which have all provided funding for their kit and other essentials.
