A horrific accident claimed five lives, including a baby of three to five months old, at about 19:50 on Saturday, October 27.

The accident happened between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, some 7km outside Plett, when a Honda vehicle traveling toward Knysna collided head-on with a Tata truck moving in the opposite direction.

According to information the vehicle with five occupants swerved into the wrong lane in front of the truck. The truck driver could not avoid the collision and drove right over the vehicle, before losing control of the truck and coming to a standstill in a ditch alongside the N2.

Following the accident, traffic authorities had to close the road to traffic while emergency workers freed the bodies from the wreck of the car. Normal traffic flow resumed at about midnight.
