Every year in July, thousands of visitors from across South Africa descend upon Knysna for the largest oyster festival in Africa. This year, in anticipation of the 29th Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, all the Fridays in the month leading up to the festival have been declared Festival Fridays.

Everyone in Knysna is encouraged to show their support for the festival by wearing the bright blue shirts emblazoned with the '2012 Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival' logo, every Friday leading up the festival.
Shaun van Eck, CEO of Knysna Tourism, said, "We hope that every local will get behind this year's festival with the same passion that we displayed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In reality, the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival brings many more visitors to Knysna than the World Cup did - an example of how we excel within the tourism industry."
Bronwen Rohland, Pick n Pay's marketing director, added, "The Knysna Oyster Festival is traditionally the best way to spend the winter holidays in South Africa, and this year's festival is set to be bigger and better with a whole host of new events having been added to an already great line-up. The festival promises something for everyone, so whether you're a sports enthusiast or foodie, or just want to relax in this picturesque town with friends and family, we look forward to welcoming you to this year's festival," she said.
