Oyster Festival a holiday haven for kids

Kids of all ages - from toddlers right through to teenagers - are going to be spoilt for choice at this year’s Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival. This year the Pick n Pay Young Oyster Festival is presented by Humpty Dumpty Windmeul Eggs.

To keep young children entertained while moms and dads explore the natural playground of Knysna there are daily activities conveniently situated in central Knysna at the Nedbank Pavilion, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival grounds in Waterfront Drive. Daily activities include cooking classes, arts and crafts, dance workshops, face painting, sand art, music making workshops, art competitions, puppet shows and a theatre workshop.

Between July 7 and 14, the Pick n Pay Children’s Movie House presented by Humpty Dumpty Windmeul Eggs will be showing movies such as Spiderman 1, 2 and 3, Stuart Little, Garfield gets real and Puss in Boots.

New to the festival this year for children aged between eight and 14 years old is the Junior Kom Braai Championships. Also held at the Nedbank Pavilion, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival grounds in Waterfront Drive contestants will receive their ingredients from Pick n Pay and then get a chance to impress the judges with their braai skills.

Also new to the festival this year are the Knock Out Games for the whole family. Teams take part in a series of six games competing against other teams. Activities include jumping giant inflatable hurdles, running up super slippery slopes, climbing the crazy inflatable 10m wall and getting dunked.

Daily at the festival the young (and not so young) can take part in a host of activities that include paintball target shooting, a bungee trampoline, a mechanical bull ride contest, the rocket, a giant slide for adults and children, jumping castles and a Zorb ball.

Between July 9 and 13 a six and a half meter inflatable Spiderman will be at the Nedbank Pavilion, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival grounds. Kids can have their face painted like Spiderman and then have their picture taken with him.

On the sporting front children between the ages of two and nine can take part in The Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour, Spur Rotary Knysna Children’s Race on July 8. And on July 7 the stand up paddleboard Coreban Lagoon Challenge has a 2km Guppie race for children.

Another great outdoor activity for the whole family is the Hi Tec Harkerville Family Forest Hike which takes place on July 11. There are several hikes available; the Blue Duiker Trail (2,75km), the Bushbuck Trail (6.5km) and the Bush Pig Trail (10km)
ensuring something for all ages.
