The beautiful photographic artwork of husband and wife, Raquel de Castro Maia and Colin Stephenson can be viewed as part of the Wood Art Exhibition at the Knysna Art Gallery (Old Gaol, Queen Street).
Complementing the Wood Art Exhibition, the two bodies of work, entitled 'Ephemeral' and 'In Pursuit of Eden' respectively, essentially capture the beauty and majesty of the Outeniqua Mountain range and the Eden District.
Both works explore macro and micro environments and the artists individual interpretations of the Mountain range move from broad and muscular landscape to microscopic and delicate detail. Together the visuals tell the story of an environment, highlighting the fact that all that exists within it is at threat.
The couple hike the foothills and the heights of the Outeniqua Mountain Range whenever they can escape, and in the last five years they have captured the material for Ephemeral and In pursuit of Eden. The photographers exploration of the wild orchids and their environment has been fuelled by their passion, and they strive to preserve natural beauty and Wilderness.
