With just over a month to go before the four finalists in this year's Centrum Guardian Project will be announced, locals should come out in numbers to vote for local NSRI hero, Torsten Henschel.
Torsten has been nominated as one of 16 finalists after his daring rip current rescue of 15-year-old Ruan Klopper recently. The Centrum Guardian Project recognises and rewards acts of courage and self-sacrifice by those who operate in the emergency services industry.
The four finalists will be announced on 4 October, after which voters will get another three days until 7 October to vote for their favourite. The overall winner will be announced on 9 October. A cool R55 000 and a trophy is up for grabs and should he win, Torsten told the George Herald, the money would "come in handy" for fixing the crumbling floor at the Wilderness NSRI Station.
To vote for Torsten SMS "STAMINA" to 33123. SMSs are charged at R1,50 and free SMSs don't apply.
