Waleaf AGM - 9 June

ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT OUR ENVIRONMENT AND WONDERING WHAT YOU CAN DO TO ENSURE ITS FUTURE?

Join WALEAF at our AGM where Mr Yakeen Atwaru, the Deputy Director of Integrated Environmental Management in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning will speak on the Public Participation Process and how we, as the public, can be actively involved.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on the 9th of June at the Loeirie’s Nest, Ebb and Flow campsite, Wilderness. Entrance is free. All are welcome. For more information, call Esme Morley on 8821293 or Mike Leggatt on 8770575

The past few years has seen people becoming more aware of the value of land in the Garden Route. For some the appeal has been purely financial, for others the value ranges from practical, through historical to sentimental and emotional. Of course with all the conflicting interest in the same commodity there was bound to be much disagreement as to the way forward. Do we commercialize, exploit and capitalize on our most precious asset. Or do we protect, nurture and guide its growth? Well, much like parents faced with a changing, growing child, that transition depends a lot on how involved we are, and key to a strong, healthy living environment is sensitivity. This involves constant attention, keeping in tune with your surroundings and learning to read the signs when something seems to be out of line.

As ordinary members of the public, we are very fortunate to live at a time when all people are able to be involved in guiding the way forward for our area. But many people feel intimidated and unsure of how they can be involved or whether they would make a difference. WALEAF is pleased to announce that Mr Yakeen Atwaru, the Deputy Director of Intergrated Environmental Management in the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning will be speaking on the "ins" and "outs" of the Public Participation Processes that guide development.

If you ever wanted to know how to make your voice heard, this is an opportunity not to be missed. It will also be an opportunity to meet and network with like-minded people.
