The BUCO Adventure Weekend from March 31 to April 1 2018 is now into its 11th year. The weekend showcases Pletts ocean, mountains and forests showing that Plett can be the adventure sportsperson’s capital of South Africa.
The BUCO Easter Surf-ski Challenge is already well established but other sports events have been added during the past 5 years to create an even greater sporting and social weekend in Plett.
The events starts on Saturday 31 March when, trail runners will converge on the Cairnbrogie Estate for a fun family morning where athletes will compete in either the 1.5 km,5 km,12 km or 18 km races. All finishers will receive a choc chip cookie and a bottle of fresh milk from the farm’s dairy. Spur together with the local Griekwa Church ladies will be on hand to keep tummies full.
Local title holder Melakhaya Msisi will once again be challenged by some bounty hunters from all over the Eastern and Western Cape. Melakhaya’s local knowledge will always make him hard to beat.
On Saturday afternoon still at the Plett Bike Park at Cairnbrogie a Kids Mountain bike lap cross country race will tire out the young legs while the folks relax .Later that afternoon there will be a cross country mountain bike relay for the teenagers and adults . Riders will ride for an allocated time in a relay format and the winning team will be the one that completes the most laps.
On Sunday April 1 Central Beach sees the action as it hosts the 11th BUCO Easter Surf Ski Challenge. The singles and doubles race takes place in the morning. This will also serve as a seeding race for the BUCO Dash For Cash which now in its third year serves up some big in prize money . Paddlers paddle a 1000m sprint in a knock out format with the winners claiming huge bragging rights and a pocket full of cash. Last year’s final came down to a photo finish.
