Carpenters - Yesterday Once More

Rediscover the carefully crafted music of the Carpenters, 50 years after the brother-sister duo made their debut on the US charts. The production, “Carpenters - Yesterday Once More”, journeys through the group’s timeline from startup to triumphs and trials.

Songs such as “Close To You”, “Rainy Days and Mondays” and “Top of the World” will turn back time and have you singing along, while the experimental “Calling Occupants of Interplanitary Craft” and Karen Carpenter’s last recorded song, “Now”, are songs that are fundamental to their story.

The musicians in the production were hand-picked. Michelle Ohlhoff put the show together and shares the story of the Carpenters as she sings lead - also demonstrating in the show that Karen was in fact a drummer. Raytheo Afrika is a prodigy pianist who grew up in JBay, having learned to play by ear. Liza Klopper, the flautist for the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, plays multiple instruments for the show. Patti van der Ploeg, HOD Music at Woodridge, does support vocals and keyboards. David Houghton, the well-known session musician, is on bass, guitar and backing vocals, while Jacques Korb, who is the heart of the music scene in the Kouga region, is on drums.

After taking this trip down memory lane you will remember why the Carpenters were so loved - and you will be reminded to love.
