A 55-year-old man sadly died while participating in this year's Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday, September 23.
This annual 100km off-road cycle route traverses the Prince Alfred's Pass from Uniondale to Knysna
Race organiser Zandile Meneses says that the cyclist seemed to have suffered cardiac arrest while cycling the Simola Hill close to the finish. "One of our marshals, who is trained in CPR, was on the scene and administered CPR for twenty minutes with the help of two doctors," she said.
The family of the deceased cyclists asked that the family's privacy be respected and declined to speak to the media. "All I can say is that the family said that he was very fit at the time of his death," concluded Meneses.
