Introduction

Woodwind instrument repair and overhauling specialist, Amano Wudd, has been in the woodwind instrument repairs and overhauling trade for over 25 years. Trained as a woodwind engineer by mastercraftsmen from the local company MOLLENHAUER at Kassel/Germany, Wudd and his collegue S.Herold ran an internationally recognised and acclaimed workshop called DIE FLOETE in Berlin/Charlottenburg.

Wudd has worked for Ornette Cobb, Archie Shepp, Zim Ngwane, Sipo Hotsticks Mabuse, Khaya Mahlangu and many other famous musicians and in many countries around the world including Sydney (Australia), Poona (India) and Oregon (America). From 1980 to 1984 Amano has worked in both Johannesburg and Cape Town (South Africa).

Innovative design features by Amano Wudd

Over the years Wudd was able to develop new innovative features such as alterations to mouthpieces (which have been used by the US company Rovner as Deep V - mouthpiece), ligatures (the reed holding device) and reeds, including 'orthopaedically' improved hangers for woodwind instruments called the Wudd Twin Strap, which evenly distributes and supports the weight of instruments normally placed on the player's neck in an orthopaedically unacceptable way.
