2012 George Old Car Show

The second week in February has become renowned as the Midas George Old Car Show weekend in George. On 11 & 12 February the Southern Cape Old Car Club will host the16th show at the PW Botha College in York Street, George and visitors can look forward to seeing between 900 – 1000 exquisite cars at this event.

Not only has this show become of one of the largest motor shows in South Africa, but is it also known to be one of the best of its kind. In 2011 more than 1000 cars were exhibited and between 10 000 and 12 000 visitors from all around the country attended this exciting event.

The show times and entry fees are as follows:

  • Saturday 11 February: 08h00 – 16h00, Adults R35 and Scholars R15
  • Sunday 12 February: 08h00 – 13h00, Adults R15 and Scholars R5

The theme for the 2012 show is Convertibles and once again the public and all exhibitors are invited to take part in the “fancy dress” competition hosted on Saturday 11 February.  A special exhibition are also being planned for the Convertibles and don’t forget about the model cars as they might also have a surprise or two up their sleeve.

With a program full of excitement, visitors can look forward to some of the following highlights on Saturday:

The fancy dress competition around 11h30,The Protea Hotel / Aucor Classic Car Auction at 13h00, a good few lucky draws by Midas, Protea Hotels as well as the tyre throwing competition sponsored by Tiger Wheel & Tyre. The cars remain the main attraction and as this show is the only one of its kind to have a live arena, where all exhibited vehicles gets to take a drive around the field, all you need to do is find a good seat and enjoy the parade.

If you can only get to the show on Sunday, do not despair, as this parade will be repeated again and more lucky draws and competitions will follow.

With more than 900 cars expected at the Midas George Old Cars Show, the Castle beer garden, model cars, arts and crafts and a variety of food stalls, the show promises to be an event full of family fun.
