Weekend of cycling at Oyster Festival

The Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour Mountain Bike Races take place tomorrow, Saturday, July 7 and includes 15km, 30km, 50km and 80km distances. All races will start and finish on Waterfront Drive. The 80km group will start at 08:00.

There will then be an hour interval to alleviate congestion before the 50km group starts at 09:00 and the 30km event will start approximately five minutes after this. (All times are traffic dependent.)

Riders will proceed along Waterfront Drive before turning left onto the N2 and then right on to the Salt River Road and on to the various routes in the farmlands and forests surrounding Knysna.

Riders will cycle under the culvert on their return route in order to try and alleviate congestion on the N2 and to maximise safety for the cyclists.

Road closures
The following roads will be closed tomorrow:
• 05:30 until approximately 09:30: Trotter / Hedge - only the south side of Trotter; Hedge and Corner of Gordon; Hedge and Gordon; Remembrance and Waterfront Drive; Waterfront Drive and just past west exit to Caltex Garage.
• 05:30 until 16:00: Western side of Waterfront Drive from finish area (past the west exit/entrance to Caltex).

Road race
The Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour Road Race 50km and 100km events take place on Sunday, July 8. The races start on Waterfront Drive.

The newly upgraded, wider White Bridge section of the national road allows for safer racing in and out of Knysna as opposed to the previous year’s routes.

Danger areas include the start on to the N2, the Sedgefield turn around, the turnoff to Hoekwil, the descent down the Hoekwil Hill, the turn back on to the N2 from Hoekwil, the Kuyternek downhill that intersects the Brenton/Belvidere turnoff, as well as the lane change just before the finish in the vicinity of The Point.

All motorists and cyclists are urged to ride/drive with caution and to obey traffic officers.
