Discover the natural beauty surrounding the town of Heidelberg just off the N2. This is a nature lovers delight and an artist’s dream. Heidelberg is a gateway to many places of interest in the Western Cape`s Garden Route.

The village harbours a treasure of beautiful old buildings, telling tales of inhabitants from almost two centuries ago.
Follow a trail of markers in the old town leading the way through thirty four historical heritage buildings.

There are three beautiful mountain passes to travel on within a 35min drive from town.
Gysmanshoek Pass between Heidelberg and Brandrivier - an absolute must for the 4x4 enthusiast, Tradouw`s Pass between Heidelberg and Barrydale, and then Garcia Pass between Riversdale and Ladismith.

The mountains in and around Heidelberg provide beautiful scenery and roads for the mountain bike enthusiast. Follow the Duivenhoks River all along the dirt road towards Klipdrift before descending back down the mountain to Heidelberg from the Barrydale side of town.

Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve is located in the Langeberg mountains about 23km from Heidelberg towards Barrydale. It is well signposted and provides lovely trails, both walking and cycling for the fit and not so fit. Excellent bird watching opportunities abound there. The scarce Narina Trogon has been spotted in this area.

Witsand, also known as the Whale Nursery of South Africa, is a mere 30 minute drive from Heidelberg. Malgas boasts the last working hand operated “pont” ferry in South Africa and is easily accessed from Witsand.
