Hi-Tec Garden Route Walking Festival

The Garden Route Walking Festival, postponed from the Easter weekend due to COVID-19 Lockdown, has been rescheduled for Spring. This is South Africa’s only walking festival and, with 45+ walks across the Garden Route, this is a festival that will be worth the wait!

Our region is home to some of the most famous, biodiverse and spectacular trails and hiking routes in South Africa and this festival celebrates iconic and special walks, with something that will appeal to everyone in the family, from seasoned hikers, nature-loving walkers and even the kids. The four-day event is packed with fun activities and adventures!

As in previous years, the festival programme includes the best walks of the Garden Route from Mossel Bay to Nature's Valley, taking in the entire coastline, forest, fynbos and mountains. Stroll through amazing forests, meander through the mists deep in the Tsitsikamma Mountains and explore the worlds of Robberg, Nature’s Valley, Great Brak and Mossel Bay. All walks are led by volunteers or professional walking guides and festival-goers will get to explore off-the-beaten-track trails and unusual spots, from local townships to the highest peaks in the region, George Peak and Peak Formosa.

Most walks are free to join, while others require a guiding fee or permit to attend. The festival raises funds and awareness for trail maintenance and trail upkeep on the Garden Route’s favourite paths and has teamed up with Green Flag Trails International to help make this happen.
