Plett Performing Arts Festival

The second annual Kids of Kurland Performing Arts Festival takes place from 20-28 February at the White House Theatre.

TUESDAY 20th FEBRUARY 2018 // Adapt or Fly
Fighting fear with laughter thirty years ago with Adapt or Dye, Pieter-Dirk Uys closes the brackets with another onslaught on a politically correct regime with Adapt or Fly. Everything in our country has changed and yet some things tell the same old story - poverty, violence, crime, corruption, media control, confusion and fear were the realities of life during the 1980s and they still are in 2018. Pieter-Dirk Uys will be joined on stage by supporting characters such as DF Malan, HF Verwoerd, PW Botha, FW de Klerk, NR Mandela, JG Zuma and a man in a red beret. Critics have described the show as a work of technical mastery. A thrilling and thought-provoking roller-coaster ride through our tempestuous timeline and an accessible must-see for all and any.

WEDNESDAY 21st FEBRUARY 2018 // Echo of a Noise
Pieter Dirk Uys has taken South Africa by storm with his provocative, deeply personal memoir The Echo of a Noise. It is a story aching to be heard and Uys knows how to keep his audiences on the very edge of their seats, waiting to hear about the great influences in his life, including, of course, his unlikely pen friend, Sophia Loren. He confides in his audiences, breaks rules and crosses boundaries. This master storyteller can make as much fun of himself as he does of others who get a lashing from his sharp tongue.

THURSDAY 22nd FEBRUARY 2018 // Africa Rise
FRIDAY 23rd FEBRUARY 2018 // A Song of Hope
The Vumani Choral Project will present two nights of outstanding entertainment. Selected soloists will perform loved and familiar operatic arias on the first night, and on the second night the full choir will delight the audience with their wide-ranging repertoire, ranging through choral, gospel, opera and dance, including indigenous dance. The choir has performed to acclaim at numerous events and we are sure that audiences will welcome back proponents of this well-loved genre.

SATURDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2018 // Nagmusiek
A South African star of the cabaret stage, Emile Minnie will captivate with his beautiful voice and mastery of the piano. His passion and energy light up the stage and thrill his audiences. His show includes French love songs, golden oldies and, always a highlight, his own compositions.. His songs have been recorded by Laurika Rauch, and his Nagmusiek album was nominated in the SA Music Awards for best alternative Afrikaans album. Together with well-known Knysna vocalist, Mia Swart, Emile will entertain and delight you.

WEDNESDAY 28th FEBRUARY 2018 // Snowgoose
Paul Gallico’s classic tale of friendship, kindness and compassion is translated to the stage by the masterful team of Contagious Theatre. Their sensitive handling of the beautiful story has brought them numerous awards and unanimous critical and audience acclaim. The production reaffirms the values that become submerged in the upheavals of our time, and works that magic that only a close rapport between audience and players can achieve – a sense of wonder that lingers long after the theatre had emptied. It is a production for all ages, and all ages should see it.

The courtyard will open every evening at 7pm, with music, cash bar and snacks for sale. Tickets R200, available from The Old House Shop or Ann Fermor on 082 452 8764.
