Sleeping Beauty Guest House is owner managed and we pride ourselves in offering friendly, personal service to our guests.
A full English Breakfast is included in our rates. If required, we offer a three course home cooked evening meal using fruit and vegetables freshly picked from our garden. This does, however, need to be prebooked, and we will be happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements.
The house was built in 1880 as the residence for the local Dutch Reformed Church minister and remained as church property until 1960, whereafter it was privately owned and farmed with fruit and vegetables.
Later it was bought by a local businessman at which time guest houses were a new innovation in small towns. He made the necessary renovations and established the first guest house in Riversdale which he named after the Sleeping Beauty mountain peak, the icon of the town. The profile of a young lady is distinctly visible and once seen, not forgotten.
Purchased in 2002 by the current owners, the accommodation has been consistently upgraded and refurbished without upsetting the olde world charm of the building. The house is situated in one of the oldest streets in Riversdale, with a river boundary, a wonderful view of the Sleeping Beauty mountain peak and is surrounded by lovingly restored old Cape houses.
The business area is within a five minute walk and guests can safely walk to the local restaurants in the evening.
Far from the noise of traffic, our guests often remark on the peace and tranquility of the area. To wake up to the early morning bird chorus is something which city dwellers seldom experience. Riversdale is known as the floral paradise of the Garden Route, the mountainside is covered with fynbos and proteas which make a spectacular display when in bloom.
