Speekhout Farm is situated in the magestic Baviaanskloof, a World Heritage Site situated in the Eastern Cape of Southern Africa.

Our stunning mountain borders the greater Baviaans Nature Reserve, offering guests quietude, clear air and sweet water to rejuvenate and revive.

The farm is located 19 km out of the NuweKloof Pass, at the west side of the kloof - being at the start of an amazing trail through this stunning mountain valley

We are easily reached by low clearance sedan vehicles travelling slowly on some sections of the dirt road, and no need for a 4x4 to the farm

Speekhout (Kiggelaria Africana) is the wild peach tree which was used for wagon wheel spokes, with numerous specimens growing in the kloof

Mountain Biking
What can we say, the entire kloof is a biker’s dream

Hiking trails on the farm
You can hike to the top of the mountain called Orrelpype, a conglomerate rock overhang, which gives a breathtaking view over the Baviaans valley as far as the eye can see
For the more adventurous and risqué, a scramble up to the Crocodile`s Back, will give you a stunning view of the magnificent Willowmore cedar trees (Widdringtonia Schwarzii) as well as a grand view of our valley

Birders paradise
Soon a comprehensive list will be available. Don’t venture far without your binocs

Wild life
Klipspringer and mountain reedbuck can be seen on the mountain cliffs
Mountain tortoise roams freely and terrapins are found in the natural dam

Rock Art
A rare find to be appreciate as part of our ancient heritage – a guided tour can be arranged

Seasonal waterfalls and rivers
When it rains, the cascading waterfalls are a sight to behold

Baviaans Craft Shop & Vero’s Restaurant
Located on the east of the farm on the main route, is the sculpted earth, stone and wood building housing local handcrafted artworks. Across the road one can find freshly baked roosterkoek
